I should have DNF’d this but I loved Mexican Gothic so much that I thought that it had to get better but alas, colour me disappointed.

I love some good ominous magic and occult vibes, but it took me a bit to really understand what was going on in this book. When I think about everything that happens in the plot, the characters, and the lore, there were a lot of things that I really liked about this book. However, I think the pacing ramped up really fast and there were moments it felt a bit like info dumping.

Definitely an enjoyable read, but the second half flew by a lot faster than the first half for me.
