A novel set in the Post-WWII rocket development program in Huntsville, Alabama. It tells the story theough the perspectives of Sophie, married to a German rocket scientist, and Lizzie, the wife of an American in charge of the rocket program. There are not many novels describing the horrors, pressures, and stresses faces by Germans who understood the evil purposes of the Nazi regime, but had no realistic means to stand against it. This novel does a great job exploring that view.

Fabulous book! I suspect that this will be my fave of 2024.

Loved the way this story was told… multiple time lines, two protagonists, and another part of WWII story I had limited knowledge of: German rocket scientists brought to Huntsville, Alabama after WWII to help develop the rocket program. Sophie, the German wife, tells her story from 1930’s Berlin and 1950’s Huntsville. Lizzie Miller, wife of rocket science program AL, tells her story from 1930s Texas and 1950’s Huntsville. Both their stories interweave each other. Enjoyed it on audio.

A very good read. A few modern phrases which jarred with the historical aspect of the novel, but overall this book is worth reading.

I wanted so badly to love this book BUT it was a bit lacking for me from middle to finish. I was excited and intrigued by the back and forth perspective of the characters but they didn’t pan out as grandiose as I anticipated. Still. Solid read!!
