Really enjoyed this one. Felt like it did a good job of humanizing all of the characters- made me think about how everyone’s just trying their best. Engaging and well written.

"Isn't an adult just a child, shaped by experience?" That quote hit me. The trauma of our childhoods we take into our adult lives, which heavily influences our actions and decisions. WWII in Germany seemed an impossible place to survive and I loved this view from the German housewife. Americans harshly judged the Germans for decades but it's always easiest to point the finger and judge. You never know the true story of another. Most people will do anything to save their families and that is illustrated so perfectly in this book. "It's not always the strongest trees that survive the storm, sometimes it's the trees that bend with the wind." MUST READ! Such a great book!
