I really liked it, but it was a bit too similar to the author's previous two books. I don't think I'll read any future novels

Amazingly written! Flows sp beautifully. I fully enjoyed the present and past timeliness and truly felt for these wives and children as products of "the times" and the audacity of men.

Taylor Jenkins Reid truly is the master of old Hollywood stories. Her technicality in writing is so insane. The way she is able to jump from different perspectives, sometimes within the same sentence, and manage a variety of timelines is so impressive. So I’m struggling to find why this book fell flat for me? I didn’t connect or truly care? I think it may be because this books is meant to be binge read on a beach within a days time. I could only find small stretches of time to read so it felt dragged out and slow. I’m chalking it up to readers error, but yeah, my rating stands for now.

Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo has been dethroned by this book!! I thought I would be disappointed in reading this because I had a hard time reading it in the first parts of the story. However, due to my laziness to find other books to read, I started reading it again and I was so glad that I did. This book, I think, is one of the best and my favourite books of all time. I rarely find myself relating to a book as much as this one did—I mean, a book about the oldest daughter of four siblings who resented her father for being such an asshole? That is my life story! I adore how TJR shaped her characters so wonderfully– they are so realistic that you would actually think her characters were all based on a real person. I was always on the verge of crying because I relate to Nina Riva so much. Also, I love how her books appear to be romance novels– but it was not actually all about romance– they tackle real-life problems like LGBTQ+ in SHOEH and family problems here in Malibu Rising. I’m out of words, I just think Taylor Jenkins Reid is a genius writer.

4/5. This was a book I found difficulty getting into because I've tried picking it up a few times in the past but just couldn't get into it until a couple of days ago when I really took my time and patience to get through it. The book made me realize that I'm not all too fond of switching timelines anymore lol. However, it did pick up for me! When I really just sat down and read it at my own pace and did not go into it in order to finish it immediately, I enjoyed it and cared for the characters. It's a really good book even though I didn't LOVE it. I'm glad I read it and am over with reading it.
