I enjoyed Tom Sawyer, it re-opened to me what it means to have the mind of a child. Sometimes you forget that your brain used to work in simpler ways when younger. It was entertaining, but I found there weren't any greater themes or lessons I could really connect to. I thought that Tom's sense of guilt after concealing some important information from the town (not going to spoil it) mirrored a little bit of the guilt from Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, but that seemed mostly like narrative rather than some greater insight into the human spirit.
Not all books need to have a deeper meaning, some can just be enjoyable. This was just that—enjoyable and nostalgic for the carefree nature, the mischief, and the antics of childhood.
