Witty, funny and interesting. Really enjoyed reading this book. My favourite part was the whitewashed fence and their stay in that island pretending to be pirates. Both these scenes had me laughing. It was really unputdownable at least for me. Once I started reading it, I did not feel like keeping it aside for even a minute.
I like the names that Tom comes up with - " Tom Sawyer, the Black Avenger of the Spanish Main, Huck-Finn the Red-Handed and Joe Harper the Terror of the Seas".
In order to make a man or a boy to covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to attain.
There was this racist dialogue that I did not like much though - When you talked about notching ears and slitting noses I judged that that was your own embellishment because white men don't take that sort of revenge.
Probably when he wrote the book, the society was full of racism, but still that line was unwarranted in such a great book (just my opinion).

I invested a lot of time into reading this book, expanding over 2 weeks. Not because it was particularly difficult to understand but because I was a little bored at times. Originally I wanted to read Huck Finn but I thought I'd read this one. Now that I've read this one, knowing my preferences I think I would prefer Huck Finn. Also, reading it as a girl, I feel like it was not targeted towards me because it found it quite unrelatable. As a classic, it’s not one of my favs but I am glad I read it and I did enjoy certain aspects of it.
There's some books that try and fail to have a good plot, or maybe the plot is lacking a little veracity and sense. Other books don't do a very good world-building, when it is relevant to the story. Some books have no likable characters or they are very two-dimensional.
Well, this book has nothing going for it. There is no plot aside from Tom living his life, which worked all well and good in To Kill a Mockingbird, but Tom is a little ass, and his life isn't that interest and he isn't that smart.
This book is going through me like 6th grade biology, I have no idea what happened in it.
It is not interesting, it doesn't have a purpose, it barely has a story.
Tom is a little shit, I couldn't care less about his life. So little happens in this book there's literally descriptions of Tom playing with a fly during a service.
I started reading this book in paperback, by the third chapter I was agonizing with boredom, I didn't want to DNF it and maybe it would get good later on so I got the audiobook. Even like that it was insufferable.
The most exciting thing was the apparition of Huckleberry Finn in the sixth chapter, at least HIS story sounded interesting.
Tom has no redeemable qualities what so ever, he is lazy, a liar, a cheater, he is manipulative and aggressive but most important, he is dumb, the things that move his life and worry him couldn't be vainer.
I honestly don't see how this could be considered a classic aside from it being somewhat old, it is a terrible classic, I was constantly falling asleep on the audiobook but I didn't even care, when I woke up and didn't play it back because I knew I didn't miss anything and at least it would mean less of it to go.
I read because I like the stories and worlds I find when I read, I read because it's an activity I enjoy, but this book has made it hell for me and the only reason why I don't quit it and start another one is because I feel like cheating if I DNF, but let me tell you, I wouldn't wish having to read this to my worst enemy.

The Nick Offerman narration on Audible was really wonderful. What a fun story.
