This series just keeps getting better and better! It is gory and quite shocking at times but since it is aimed for teens, most of whom love horror films, it isn't surprising.
I love Jazz as a character. He is growing and changing and finding out who he is. he is still worried he will become like his father, Billy Dent (the serial killer to end all serial killers), but he is also finding that he can use all that he was taught to track serial killers on the side of good.
You find out more about Jazz's family in this book and I am sure the next you will get a lot of surprising info on them since clues were dropped in this book that point in that direction. I love how his girlfriend Connie and friend Howie keep Jazz grounded and feeling human. I do admit I wanted to slap the crap out of Connie because of how she was acting and boy has it gotten her in a bad situation.
I was annoyed at the cliffhanger, a triple one, and am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series to see how they turn out and how Jazz, Connie, and Howie get out of the horrible situations that they are now in.
I highly recommend this book for all lovers of horror/true crime books...especially if you are a YA reader or someone who likes this topic without lots of cursing and sex (though there is hints it may play a part in future book).

Great book, I love how all the characters are developed, Lyga has left me wanting more!!
"I can't believe that ending! Wow...
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, but this one surpassed all expectations. Jasper is such a captivating character, with his uncanny ability to read people and the constant dialogue with his father's voice in his mind. His internal struggle between good and evil is palpable, and you can't help but root for him to choose the right path.
The game itself was no laughing matter. I was captivated by the way it was revealed and played out. What in the world will happen next? I'm completely clueless...
And amidst all the intensity and craziness, Howie's comic relief is a welcome breath of fresh air.
I'm seriously considering throwing out my reading list and diving straight into the next book!"

So creepy and weird and great characters. Looking forward to #3.
Not as good as the first in the series, but not terrible.
Another dark, twisting, gory, mind-thriller. We follow Jasper, Connie and Howie as they are drawn into the intrigue of the Hat-Dog murders taking place in NYC.
*Spoilers*
I felt like everyone was taking stupid pills to not have figured out the "game" part a LOT sooner. But, once I firmly suspended my disbelief that NYPD would ask the teen son of a serial killer to help them profile a murder in the city, it was actually a REALLY quick and don't-want-to-put-it-down read. Still, not many unexpected plot twists in the story so far and I have a feeling the third will finish up pretty predictably (Come on, who DIDN'T guess what Jasper would find out by the end of the book??) but it's a rather well-done bit of predictable so I'll keep reading!

I'm getting a bit "dogged down" with the 2nd book in the series always ending with a cliff hanger.... yeah this one does....for everyone.
As well being a bit of a mystery, I got a bit disappointed when I figured out what the "game" was at page 242.... Chapter 44 later confirmed my theory. The book started switching different POV's, going into Jasper, Billy, "the Killer", Connie and even Howie, this is because a lot of plot lines are going on at once. I don't know how much I like that.
But it isn't all bad news, once again, Lyga's dry wit, memorable phrasing and poetically creepy prose make a triumphant return.... As well, although the ending is a cliff hanger, at least it wasn't "too rosey".... I think I liked the ending of the first better however; sealed but pointing in the general direction of the next.
Maybe I'm just not in a "reading" mood anymore, or maybe the first one was so good that I had higher hopes.

I'm lost for words right now.

This book is glorious. I want to be buried under it with flowers in my hair and a content smile on my face. This book is perfection.
