I selected this book after watching a couple of episodes of the "The Hollow Crown". This tome is a very detailed account of the players in the War of the Roses. At times I wasn't sure I was reading about the War of the Roses but more a genealogical treatise on the houses of Lancaster and York. That said, the war finally got started about half way through the book and was chronicled very well. Over all I really enjoyed the book. A truly sad tale about some very conceited and selfish people. As with so many wars this one was truly wasteful. One benefit from reading this book is that I now have a deep interest in reading Shakespeare. Go figure!
My first straight history and its The Wars of the Roses! Quite hard to read at first because of all those similar names of the monarchs and nobles, but I enjoyed this book by Alison Weir and its worth the effort.

It was an odd stopping point. That's my main thing. To me, this book focused mainly on Henry VI versus Edward IV. Or, all of the people controlling Henry VI versus Edward IV. There was nothing really about the Tudor faction, surprising given that Weir is very on about Tudor history. Henry VII was just a small footnote. Nothing about Richard III or anything about the Princes in the Tower. Odd, and not what I expected whatsoever. Still, it was good. A good overview of the War of the Roses and what happened to cause it.

A very readable account of about 2/3 of the Wars of the Roses (she doesn't include the war between Richard III & Henry VII because she partly covered that in a book about the Princes in the Tower). Only minor dating errors found, nothing substantial.
