Impression by Charnjit Gill
“Truth and compassion are how it is conducted. Happiness and humility are how we’ve been instructed “
This beautiful collection of poems is a love letter to letting go, finding ourselves and sharing the wisdom that comes with time and healing. I felt immersed in Gill’s emotionally vulnerable journey and was reminded that loving myself is the most powerful teacher of all.

ARC from the author
I’m not really a poetry reader, mostly because I hate to understand what “in-between-the-lines”. Which is why I enjoyed this. It’s more straight forward, and it makes you think. Think about the world around you, your relationships and your self. I found myself really moved by some of them. My favorites being Too Loud, Stop and Inherit (last one made me tear up).
Really recommend this if you’re a poetry lover and enjoy poetry that are more “straight forward”. I sent some of them to a friend who are dealing with some personal stuff and it was very fitting. I found the book inspirational and I might read some of them from time to time as a comfort.
Thanks for sending me this Charnjit Gill!

I really like this style of minimalist poetry and in this collection there were some poems that really resonated with me, that I liked a lot. But overal I think I expected more?
'Impression': 5 ⭐
(Book sent by the author in exchange for a honest review: thank you @charnjitgill1 for sending me a copy of this stunning work of art)
Being a huge supporter of poets, I absolutely fell in love with the poet's writing. 'Impression' is one of the most beautiful, heart-felt piece of writing I have ever read.
This is a piece of literature that contends faith and passion and love for the body and the mind and makes the reader feel at ease with themselves.
There were two poems that most appealed to me. I loved them all, I felt connected to them all but this two were the most stunning ones:

I love poetry but I rarely give poetry collections 5 stars. The only exceptions to this so far, were Shakespeare’s Sonnets & ‘One For Everyone’, a compilation by Kathleen Watkins. And then, I read Impression.
I’m a big fan of rhyme which oozes from this poetry collection. With rhyme comes rhythm. With rhythm comes feeling. Written in an accessible manner, it is minimalistic yet thought-provoking. Charnjit Gill is a spoken word artist and you can see this in her writing. The words jump off the page and as I read, I could imagine them being performed.
Oftentimes, poetry is not accessible. It filled with confusing similes, metaphors and hidden messages. This collection is filled with all of that, minus the confusion. It is accessible and easily comprehended, which I really appreciate.
The poems are well written, cleverly structured and explore a vast variety of themes. I absolutely loved this book and I continue to flick through it, reading a poem or two, every so often. A great compilation to dip in and out of. An added bonus is the gorgeous cover that feels silky smooth. Such a beautiful cover, holds a journey of hope, healing, relationships, faith and self reflection.
My favourite poems from the collection are:
-Love the sinner, hate the sin.
-Too loud
-Potential
I was very kindly gifted a copy by the author. This is Charnjit Gill’s debut collection and I cannot wait to read what they published next.
Highly recommend!

I have to say, I’m not a major fan of poetry but this really moved me. My favorite poem in this collection would have to be Too Loud. The line “we will always be too loud for a world that never intended on listening to us” really struck a cord in me. Gill manages to say so much in so few words, it truly is a talent!
The synopsis describes the book perfectly, every poem had a simple message of optimism and resonated with me in a way I didn’t expect. I think this is one of those rare books that everyone will get something out of, no matter who you are.
It’s a short read, but a powerful one. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys minimalist poetry, one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much was because each poem is no more than a page long.

Impression is a beautifully written minimalistic poetry book filled with poems about faith, relationships and ourselves. I read this in one sitting, reading on and on to find more thought provoking poems! My favourites were Healer, Cliff, See Failure, Alone and Strong.
A great little poetry book which is perfect for dipping in and out of.
I found this probably the most accessible poetry book I’ve ever read- the themes of each chapter are very clear and there were some really enjoyable poems.
I particularly liked Attachments & Meant, but I really loved Stop which I thought was the stand out poem of this collection. The feminist sentiment felt particularly powerful and relevant.
Personally, I found that I was searching for more depth in the poems which I didn’t always get. I really enjoy a poem with hidden meanings, whereas this book was more of a short, snappy collection of stylised musings.
