The Sweet Far Thing

3.9 AVERAGE

The author wrapped everything up beautifully plot-wise but the book was way too long... the number of times the characters went back and forth between the realms and the real world could have been reduced by at least 5 times. I did like the slow build into chaos the length of the book provided. Overall, there's a reason I've reread this series a couple of times. Love it!
Loveable characters: Yes

This book...dragged on and on. It really didn't get good until the last 20%. I feel like the whole time I was reading the same thing over and over, "we frolicked in the realms again and again"! It was extremely frustrating. It ended pretty well though, almost making up for the filler.

I'm so glad I finally completed this trilogy!!

I absolutely LOVE how much this trilogy speaks to female empowerment. I thought Libba Bray handled this issues in a really realistic and relatable way and I just thought it was really well done. At so many points throughout this book and the trilogy as a whole I just had such girl power feels.

I did think this final book, being over 800 pages, dragged a little in parts, I think this book probably could have been a bit shorter than it ended up being.

Issues I had:

I have seen some people mention it in other reviews and I have to agree, to me the apparent lesbian relationship between Felicity and Pippa, just came a little out of left field. At no point in the first or second books did I think this was in anyway being hinted at. In fact, there are several occurrences in both books which would have led me to believe the exact opposite. I am not in anyway saying that someone can not be questioning their sexuality and still engaging in romantic 'relationships' with people of either or both sexes but to me it really just did seem like it came out of nowhere.

I was really upset by the death of Katrik. I didn't feel like it was necessary to the wrapping up of the plot for him to die. However, I do also understand that I am totally biased in this regard because I shipped Gemma and Katrik so hard and I was really hoping they were going to find a way to make it work.

I was also hoping that we were going to see Gemma stand up to her friends a little bit more in this instalment. Sometimes Gemma could be an incredibly weak willed character and allow Felicity in particular to just walk all over her and at some points, quite frankly, act like a total asshole.

Overall though I have to say that this was a really enjoyable trilogy with some really great messages and I would definitely recommend people pick it up.

Would give 5 stars if not for how drawn out it felt at parts. I was always quite entranced with the world and characters, but the story really meandered and took its time. I also got quite annoyed at times with Gemma's friends who never wanted to believe her, but I guess that's partially explained by Felicity's state of denial.
The ending is heartbreaking...to me at least. I both love and hate bittersweet endings. Makes your heart feel a bit raw. I get too caught up in main characters' emotions especially with a love interest involved.
Lots of good action though and quite a few parts that had me on edge. I was quite surprised how spooky it would get.

The ending to this trilogy was nothing short of epic. I felt like all of the different storylines and mysteries wrapped up well and it was so much fun to get further into the story and see the characters continue to solve the mysteries of the past to be able to save both our world and the Realms.
The trilogy is beautifully written and full of suspense. I love these books and highly recommend them.

I am sorry to finish this trilogy. It was a bit of a guilty pleasure, but it was oh so good. I think Libba Bray did a good job of wrapping things up--the descriptions of the magic got a little repetitive, but the characterization was excellent. Gemma got funnier, Felicity gained some more humanity (and gave readers another surprise...), and Ann started to come into her own. Mrs. Nightwing earned my affections in the last book, and I continued to like her in the series' conclusion. She reminded me of Gorgon, another of my favorite characters.

The plot took a couple of interesting twists, which I really enjoyed. A couple shadowy figures came to the light, and I liked where Bray took them. There was one sacrifice at the end that annoyed me to no end--why are authors always making their characters sacrifice themselves???--but it didn't completely ruin the book for me.

Again, I warn that this series is only for mature readers. Again, I state that I had a great time with Ms. Bray's books.

I was a little disappointed in this final installment because the writing just felt... different? Less refined than the previous two, and I’m honestly very confused about what happened at the end with Kartik. I feel like the trilogy up until the end was so well-developed and deserved a less messy ending.

I was sad at the end, but glad that everything tied together...guess I would categorize it as a bittersweet ending and definitely a GREAT read!!~
