4.5 stars!
Although I feel like the book started out slow it really picked up! It was such a nice story but the end was a tad bit disappointing.

A love story involving two misfits/opposites. Park is nerdy and Korean; Eleanor is the new girl stands out with her red hair and curvacious features.
The story takes place in Nebraska in 1986 and the book is full of all kinds of great 80s details that really pulls the reader back in time. The author was so thorough with her setting, using clothing, media, language etc to make the time period feel authentic.
Theirs is a relationship with so much working against it. Eleanor's home life is rough. Her stepdad is abusive and her family struggles for the basics from food to clothes to privacy.
Park struggles with his Korean heritage and experiments with his image using eyeliner like all the punk rockers of the era, much to his father's dismay.
What makes readers swoon for this love story is the connection the main characters develop through comic books and music and how they truly treasure each moment spent together.
I listened to the audiobook version of this title and I'd highly recommend it. It's not everyday that an audiobook so good it causes you to linger in the car comes along. Recommended for grades 9 and up.

Ah, a good cliché and cringe book about teens in love, my fav gender when I was a teenager lol.
I have felt nostalgic reading this, I first read it back in 2014-2015 (I don't remember exactly when) when I was a girl with dreams (lol I sound like an old lady but I hope this makes sense) and never touched a boy before lmao. I am not going to lie when I say that some parts of it were kinda cute, like first love bla bla, but it's just too much now.
There are parts that made me roll my eyes, like cringy parts in between the main characters (SPOILER KINDA specially the end, which was like: ugh girl just reply to the letters fr...), about how they talked to and about each other and how they interacted in general. How tf was the whole thing SO fast between them, they barely knew each other.
She was in desperation of validation, which is not really #GirlBoss coming from her, and she seeks it through him. I think she needed a bit of self love before loving him.
Also he was so unaware? Of everything?
Also there are some descriptions in the book that are really poor, I couldn't see the movie in my brain in some parts. Also I can't imagine Eleanor's appearance in my brain. I would have loved to, tho.
Despite this whole criticism I DEVOURED the book and enjoyed it again, and I loved the idea, just not as good as I thought it used to be back then. But over all, this is a good book for teens, it's cute and all that and a good book for how love was portrayed in social media, movies, etc. back in 2012, when this was published.

I enjoyed this book. I didn't like it in the beginning but it grew on me. I didn't really like the character of Eleanor, but I loved Park. Park is just amazing. I understood the character of Eleanor, but I feel as if she was a little overdone.
