✨REVIEW✨
Eleanor and Park-Rainbow Rowell
Overall: 3.8/5

This book reminds me of a nice warm hug. An intense love story between two high schoolers is bound to have readers in their feels. Rainbow Rowell does a fantastic job at tackling taboo subjects such as domestic abuse. She also brings to light just how important it is to fight gender norms.

Eleanor and Park is a beautiful little love story of two teens growing up in very different environments and how they find deep connection over books and music. Eleanor is growing up in a hostile home while Park’s family seems almost too good to be true. The two of them learn that what they love most about each other is their differences.

After reading this I would give this book a solid 3.8/5. It was well written and touching but I did find it a bit stale in some parts and did not have the urge to pick it up as much as I should have. I would have liked to see more development between Eleanor and her mom as well as Eleanor and her siblings.

This is going to sound strange, but I have this puzzle of banned books & Eleanor & Park is on there. So I think I went into this one expecting some really interesting portrayal of young adulthood that would make the book worthy of being on a puzzle of banned books. And it just simply wasn't... The main reason that I think it is is the discussion of infatuation/sex when you're young. But to me, it was the rapid progression from "who is that weird kid" to "I love you" that it didn't even hit the first-crush-when-you're -young timeline that I think the author was trying to portray. The other reason I could see this being a banned book is the mentions of race for Park. However, once again, they seemed unrealistic. Those mentions felt shoved in there & didn't push the story at all & then weren't actually grounded parts of the plot. I think this one definitely encapsulates "reading at the right time" because I may have loved this when I was in late middle school/early high school, but reading it now just felt disappointing.

In Eleanor & Park, two misfit teenagers in 1980s Omaha form a tentative connection over comic books and mixtapes. Eleanor, struggling with a troubled home life, and Park, navigating his own family pressures, find solace and understanding in each other’s company. Their bittersweet first love explores themes of identity, acceptance, and the fleeting, transformative power of young romance.

Just lovely, tender, and kind

I loved Rainbow Rowell's other books. All three of them, I loved them. But, sadly I have to say this book wasn't for me. I couldn't relate to any of the characters. I didn't even care, maybe a little bit about Eleonor 's siblings. I really want to know what would become of them. But, again sadly they weren't the focus of this book.Honestly, I didn't buy into their romance. They just fell in love, and the book dragged on and on,and it became really boring.
I wanted to love this book so bad. But, I didn't . I am so sad. I am also happy that it wasn't my first encounter with Rainbow Rowell, otherwise, I would have never read her other books.

Never finished it, classic ADHD
