I fell in love with Friendship, Rhode Island when I read In A Jam last year, and I was so excited to return to it for Shucked!

After winning an old bait shop in a poker game, Sunny Du Jardin finds herself back in her hometown of Friendship opening up a vegan cafe with three of her friends. The oyster bar next door, however, is currently under the grumpy management of her brother's best friend, Beckett Loew, who was the biggest annoyance to her during childhood.

Beckett moved to Friendship as a teen, managed to escape after school, but has now made an unwanted return to help clean up a family mess. What he didn't expect was for the daily thorn in his side to be none other than his best friend's little sister...who was no longer so little.

The way these two hate each other and drive each other crazy was so highly amusing. While Sunny certainly lives up to her name, she certainly knows how to hold a grudge and push the buttons of one, Beckett Loew. But even decades of hate and grudges is no match for the tension burning between the two. Even when boiling mad at Sunny, Beckett had people on speed dial ready to rush to her assistance whenever she ran into trouble. The way that man cares for the people that matter in his life...

This book was a combination of sweet and spicy and filled with laughs. It is definitely a long one, but overall, I enjoyed it. I especially loved all of the supporting characters, especially Beckett's manager, Mel, and Sunny's three partners. The cameos from our In a Jam crew were also wonderful. I'm so eager for Decker's book!

Kate Canterbury heroes are just SOOOO GOOD. Starts off slow but the payoff is SO worth it!! The small town dynamic is just perfect, and the supporting characters are perfectly balanced.

Kate Canterbary knows how to pull the attention of her readers into the small fictional town of Friendship, RI. Not only does the reader get to know the characters of this new Loew Brothers series, but we get to see some of our favorites from Little Start Farms as well. Kate knows how to make her characters banter in the most relatable way. Not just the MMC and FMC, but the side characters who are so delightful that it makes you want to learn more of their story.

Sunny and Beckett have instant fire from the start due to the underlying resentment from childhood, but that fire continues to burn as they get to know each other. Their story is one of enemies to friends to lovers, which forms with the most beautiful ease. The author let the characters get to know each other and solve the conflicts both familial and personal throughout to story. I cannot wait to see where the stories of the other Loews brothers evolve.

I also enjoyed some of the relatable moments Sunny and Beckett had together. It is always nice when you can relate in that way.

I have loved a bunch of KC’s books but I didn’t quite vibe with this one. I feel like it was 100+ pages too long and some parts were poorly edited. Love the cast of small town characters though! And def would want to be BFFs with Sunny.

“But that was the problem with big plans and the rate at which spinach went bad in my fridge and the whole damn world: I couldn’t control any of it.”

“You might not want to hear this but I think you’re good at a lot more than solving everyone’s problems. Anyone who knows you—the real you, not the broody troll—knows there’s a lot more to you than the things you fix.”

This was my first book from Kate Canterbury and it didn't disappoint!

As a small town romance gal, I absolutely loved the town Kate created and all of the quirky side characters encircling Beckett and Sunny. I think this was a fantastic start to this series! I feel like it's only going to get even better with the other Loew brother and the gals from Naked!

There was a lot of diversity in the town, which we LOVE, and it makes me so excited and curious to see where Kate takes this series and how she expands upon the side characters! I personally love all of Sunny's friends and I personally need more of them throughout the rest of the series.

I liked that there was a good amount of action happening while it still being your average small town romance book. THE LAST TWO CHAPTERS HAD ME SHOOK. I liked drama that came with Beckett's family and I loved how Sunny was able to show him true love for who he is, not just his charitable actions.

Also the epilogue and the extended epilogue were freaking adorable!

At times this did feel a bit too long, and that's coming from someone who LOVES a slow burn romance; however, the banter and found family truly made up for it!

I think this was a great start and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

If you like:
Small Town Romance
Slow Burn
Brother's Best Friend
Enemies (ish) to Lovers
"Who did this to you"
Romance with some action
Dysfunctional Family

You should definitely read this!
