The start: captivating and exciting. It made me want to know more about the characters.
The backstory: interesting at parts but it gets repetitive by the mid point and made me just want to speed up and get back to the current time.
Favorite subplot: Joan and Frances's relationship kept me engaged throughout the book. It was the best thing about the backstory. It made me cry which is always a good sign!
The writing: I love TJR's writing and it didn't disappoint but it was not her strongest book.
The ending: predictable and a bit cheesy.

The ending definitely had me crying! I think the main character was a little flat, but I did like her. I think the situations the characters get put in are quite heart wrenching, but I didn’t really care super deeply for the characters themselves. There were some really interesting discussion about space, the universe, and what god is that I enjoyed. Overall, a good book!

I wanted to like this more! I was excited about the setting and then ended up being bummed when the focus really wasn’t on the space program- it was more of a love story that happened to be in the space program.

The tension was high at the beginning of the book, and it was a slow (and kind of unrelated) burn getting us back to that tense plot line. So much so that the ending was abrupt.

I was fascinated by Joans relationship to her sister; I wish we had some closure there or had focused more of the book on their history.
