katie kitamura does it again!!!

i didn't love this book as much as Audition and Intimacies, but this was still such a gripping read. the main character's indifference/complicity, the unfolding murder mystery of christopher, etc. kept me hooked throughout the novel. i love how kitamura across all her books has a large focus on the present and interiority — despite little to no flashbacks or deep background dives, the characters still feel well-fleshed out. i was most intrigued by the character Isabella in this story and wish we got more of her.

overall great read!

DID NOT FINISH: 10%

Incredibly, shockingly dry. A book can be slow if there is something else that makes you glad the author took their time: fabulous characters or a well-painted setting or beautiful prose. This book had nothing. No dialogue punctuation, no likeable characters, no discernible plot. Glad I got this from the library, I would have been even more disappointed if I’d spent even a dollar on this book.
