Synopsis: We follow up with the storyline in the Superman title where Parallax was kidnapping children. Superman gives Hal Sinestro's ring, but insists that he is still alive and that Parallax was contained within the ring. Hal can't sense the entity in the ring, however. The two of them rescue Hector Hammond from being taken by these little alien dudes and Hammond forces Superman to use his laser vision to shoot him in the neck, leaving him comatose, but stable.
Next, Ganthet and Sayd are kidnapped by the Controllers. The Controllers are using Guardian DNA to create more Controllers, essentially. It's actually a really brutal process where these cords plunge into their guts and just suck everything out. The main four Lanterns figure out what's going on and fly to their rescue. They eventually defeat the Controller, though they escape and have managed to create three new Controllers. Ganthet and Sayd take the other Guardians back to Mogo and claim that it is their time to return to the Corps they created because the Corps will be their legacy. The Controllers are revealed to have an army of Darkstars.
Review: Didn't care for this volume. The first part with Superman I understand was necessary so the Corps is at least aware Sinestro could be alive, but it was pretty boring. Hammond has never been one of my favorite Hal villains, but I do think he's underutilized, but that could be because he really is a creepy fuck when he wants to be, which is most of the time.
The second arc took too long and I'm saying that as this is one of the shortest volumes of this series yet. Most of it is just the four mains fighting against the various defenses the Controllers have put up. It's nice to see the four working together, since most of the time they're broken into teams, but there isn't much substance there. I don't know how I feel about the Guardians of the Universe returning, they were dirt before and I'm sure they'll be dirt again, even if Ganthet and Sayd are leading them.

This felt old school in all the right ways. I loved the Superman team-up that kicks this collection off. Then we move on to a team-up of Hal, Kyle, John and Guy that hits all the hallmarks in a very satisfying way. No new ground is broken, but it was a fun trip.

We get a bit more time with Hal at the beginning of this volume as he goes on a mission back on Earth. Despite his pride in being a Green Lantern he has things he misses from Earth, namely his love interest Carol. I'm hoping that we get to see him be able to reunite and talk to her again at some point. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be any time soon. I would also kill to see Hal hang out with Clark's family. I'm sure Jon loves the happy go lucky Hal Jordan.
We also begin another separate arc where the guardians are kidnapper and all the human lanterns on Mogo team up to go get them. This was my favorite arc in this volume because even more importantly than making a great team, all of them are amazing friends that have each other's backs and we get to see each of them shine in what they do best. I'm still really happy with this run and I'm looking forward to seeing Zod for the next arc. Great volume!
