I really enjoyed this book. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. It might not be for everyone but it kept me engaged in the story and it had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing (somewhat).
I quickly became intrigued by Dank (what a horrible name) and it will be interesting to see where the author goes with Leif as a complication to Dank and Pagan.
I borrowed this book and I'll definitely have to buy this and the future books in this series.
I'm quickly becoming a fan of Abbi Glines.

I picked up this book because I won PREDESTINED (Exitence Trilogy #2) from Abbi Glines in the YA Scavenger Hunt. I'd meant to read it for awhile, but you know how it is with a growing TBR list. Books just get piled--one on top of the other. And sometimes some really great reads go unread because of this. Well, I'm really glad I won PREDESTINED because I got a chance to enjoy this very delightful series!
The whole idea that "Death" (also known as, Dank) can be a romantic love interest isn't something that you see very often. And, I really do appreciate a unique and original concept like this one.
I couldn't help but feel badly for Pagan, who seems like she's had it rough most of her life, having to keep her knowledge of--and interaction with--ghosts a secret from everyone. Fortunately, she has good friends in Miranda and Wyatt. And while they may have no idea of what Pagan deals with, there's still a fierce loyalty between them.
I love it when a story incorporates, not only a beautiful romance, but also a strong friendship bond, as well. And, with Pagan, Miranda, and Wyatt, who have all been friends since they were little, you can tell that these side characters are in place to help build up this story and not just for some unnecessary filler.
There is also, a love-triangle. Well, I should say that Pagan has two love interests. But, it seems pretty clear from the beginning who Pagan can't seem to live without. That being said, I think Leif is a pretty great character, as well. He may not have the whole mysterious, seductive, supernatural vibe going in this book, but he, sure as heck, has the boy-next-door thing going. And he obviously cares about Pagan. While I may not have prefered Leif for Pagan, I didn't find myself disliking him, either. I could see why she cared about him.
Now, for the romance as a whole, I felt like sometimes Pagan may have been a little TOO dependant on Dank and that may have made her appear a little too weak and needy for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the all-emcompassing-desperate-true-love thing, but I just didn't get quite ALL of the decisions that Pagan made in regards to Dank. This didn't take away from my opinion of her, per se, I just didn't find that I could relate to her at certain parts of the story.
I will say this: I absolutely LOVE this series so far! I'm more than excited for the third installment--Ceaseless-- to come out later this year. I think Ms. Glines is a fabulous writer and a phenomenal storyteller!

A little slow to start but it picked up toward the middle and end. It was a bit annoying how everything was a secret till the end, but some things were hinted at strongly. The delivery of hints and information could have been a bit smoother but overall a good story. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

This was a great read. I have read a lot of Abbi Glines books. Mostly they are New Adult rather than Young Adult. So when I saw she made this YA fantasy romance between a girl who sees souls and Death, I was like I got to read this book. It did not disappoint. It could have been better, but I was still engaged with the story. I hope she writes more YA books now.
The story was intriguing and different. I thought the characters were great. Pagan is a senior in high school and she volunteered as a tutor. Dank is actually Death, but he did something he was not supposed to do. He saved someone from dying. I wish there was more about Dank and Leif. I can't wait to read the sequels. Next up, Predestined. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Loved it! It was such a page turner and I love Dank. I know he's Death and all but he's a hottie and a sweetheart all in one. So happy they finally got together, but that last sentence! *sigh* Can't wait to dive into book 2. :)
I have a rule about not reviewing books that I failed to finish. I am going to break that rule. I wanted to love this book, I really did. The summary, the cover, everything pointed to it being my kind of book. They lied! This book was excruciatingly painful to read. I tried to hold on. I kept reading, hoping, praying that it would get better. I told myself that if I just read to the next chapter it would get better and I would be captivated by the story just like I knew I should be. But one chapter turned into three and I just couldn’t take it anymore. The characters weren’t consistent. One of the main characters, Dank (Dank!?!? Seriously, what kind of name is that?), seemed like an afterthought. Every time he appeared felt contrived. It felt like he wasn’t supposed to be in the book and was intruding on the rest of the story. I did skip to the back of the book and read the last two chapters. The ending was cliché, boring, and completely drawn out ad nauseam. Even one star is being generous for this book. I would not recommend Existence to any of my friends and I will never read it again. Spare yourself the wasted time. Pick something else. Anything else!
AH-MAZING!!! Love love love Dank. Love Abbi Glines even more! Whoa!
This is by far one of the worst books I think I have ever read. I have no idea who the editor this book was but there's so many errors, there's so many things that make no sense, it was almost impossible to get through. The way the plot moves was almost incoherent. The manner in which characters and plot points are represented are almost too quick. I know the book is 160 pages and it's harder to move from scenes so quickly with precision, however when it's the entire novel? Jeez.
The descriptions in this novel are incredibly strange. She's so descriptive of the way the main character, Pagan, chokes on water or how deliberately someone hugged someone else but I don't think I got a clear description of half of the characters. Pagan, honestly. is rather deplorable and incredibly whiny. Her friends aren't believable characters, really. Her boyfriend, who she cheats on multiple times with the literal human embodiment of death, is flighty and dReAm BoAt level awful, her mother talks like she's an encyclopedia, it got so awful I just kind of skimmed through the last few (brief) chapters.
In my opinion, not worth your time to read. Not even as a joke.
