Really enjoyed the progression of the plot. Very cool way to tell a story. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not really sure why the book has the title it does.

I almost didn't read this book because there were such mixed reviews, but I think I know why. It is historical fiction, but this takes the idea that there are witches that really exist, so the historical purists aren't happy and it's a little heavy for standard witch stories. I thought it was fabulous. I loved Elizabeth, loved her voice, her experiences, I just really enjoyed this book. And she has another one out that I am quite excited to read as well.

A sweet book a little on the "light" side for me.

This is listed as a historical fantasy but it is closer to a horror story. The first act is a mix of Arthur Machen and Lovecraft. The second act is wonderfully disturbing. It isn't until the 3rd and 4th acts that it begins to lose steam. It ends on a rather flat note. At some point it stopped being unnerving and intriguing and became a bunch of tropes.

It took me awhile to finish the book. While I seen negative reviews about it I didn't think it was that bad. It entertained me. It isn't a masterpiece but it had a story and that is what writing is all about!

Disappointed. Was hoping for a lot more 'witch'

It was great to grab another Paula Brackston book, I really enjoy her writing style.

There were similar elements in this series that can be found in her others. The pacing of the novel was great and the way it toggled between past and present flowed together well. It left me constantly guessing because the bad guy, well, he could be anyone.

I look forward to enjoying book 2!
