A fun read but felt it spent along time laying the groundwork to then rush through the finale. Felt like the last season of game of thrones jumping all over the globe within chapters.

The Priory of the Orange Tree is a gorgeous, action-packed, and wholly original high fantasy novel. With brilliant and engaging worldbuilding inspired by a feminist reinterpretation of St. George and the Dragon, Samantha Shannon immerses the reader in a story of an epic, century-long conflict in a land of court intrigue, dragons, magic, piracy, and high adventure. On top of all that, the book features fantastic queer representation and storylines as part of an extraordinarily diverse cast of well-drawn characters. This book is high fantasy brought into modern sensibilities in all the right ways and I could rave about it for hours; I highly recommend The Priory of the Orange Tree to anyone wants to bring magic into their lives!

If you’re really into big, sprawling epic fantasy novels (the kind that require maps, glossaries, and an index of character names) and you want one that passes the Bechdel test, this book is for you.

The world building was beautiful and the fantasy realm that was described was so real I could almost believe it used to exist. The diversity within the strong female lead characters was very interesting and refreshing and the romance was good but not overpowering.
My one critique is that all the deaths felt too early, there was no real connection yet between most of the ones who died and it felt very filler.
