I'm so ashamed to admit I almost skipped over this book. I've never been so glad to ignore my gut feeling. This review is probably going to be like War & Peace because I have so much I need to say

Winter Oranges was a beautifully told tale of a love that defies conventional logic but is as pure as the snow that surrounds both Jason Walker and Ben Ward, the two male main characters. There's a hint of magic when it comes to the idea of Ben having been placed in a snow globe by his protective sister, but what he and Jason experience together is very real for both of them. They're from two very different time periods but the middle ground that they find is one that's based on trust and friendship and leads them into the seemingly impossible becoming more than possible because of just how strong their feelings are.
The story develops at a leisurely pace, allowing the relationship between Jason and Ben to grow and evolve without needing to force or rush it. It's a story that makes you believe in the miracle of love and that you sometimes find it in the most unexpected of places and with the most improbable of people. Both Jason and Ben deserve to have not just a bit but a lifetime filled with love, happiness, and acceptance, so their paths crossing, even if it did take 150 years, almost feels like destiny. Winter Oranges is one of the best reads I've experienced in 2015 and is the perfect holiday love story to snuggle up with. Five-plus stars! ♥

The best Holiday Riptide read was undoubtedly Winter Oranges. Oddly enough, it was also the book that I was the most worried about. Child actor falls in love with a man trapped in a snow globe? I mean, that sounds completely hokey! But, somehow it wasn’t. It was the perfect set up for a romantic read, with a built in obstacle. Ben appeared in Jason’s new house as a projection. He couldn’t be touched, and in the beginning he couldn’t be heard. Their relationship was doomed from the start.
It doesn’t stop Jason. If he never finds a way to get Ben out of the globe, he’s prepared to live the rest of his life like this, so long as he gets to be with the man he loves.
That is such a beautiful setup!
What makes it even better is that neither Sam nor Jason is a jerk. Once Jason gets past his shock, he’s so kind and sweet with Ben. He even tries to find ways to broaden Ben’s limited world. And Ben! For someone who has spent the last 150 years in a snow globe, cut off from the entire world and never aging, he has an incredible outlook on life. While that could have been utterly unbelievable, Ben perfectly explains why he seems so happy. Trust me, it makes complete sense.
I would most definitely recommend this read to anyone, particular someone looking for a holiday read that is 75% romance and only 25% sex. I would recommend it to someone who wants to read a happy story that’s light and poignant. If that’s something you’re looking for, then I suppose I recommend this read to you!

This was cute, and definitely different than i imagined! I loved Ben and his joy for all the things in life and Jason needed that..also perfect winter book!
I will say Dylan and Jason’s relationship well more friends with benefits thing went on longer than I wanted especially with Ben in the picture. Felt like that should have been cut off sooner, but understood where Jason couldn’t lead on he was talking to someone in a snow globe only he could see haha
I can’t wait for Monday where we can read all about Dylan’s love life! Haha
Nick J Russo did a great job with this book!

This came highly recommend but I have to say that I found it kind of boring. Maybe it's because I listened to the audiobook but the narrator seems proficient enough so I don't think it's that. I just think maybe this is just an okay book - inoffensive but forgettable. Perhaps Marie Sexton just isn't the author for me.

A quick read. I expected it to be a shut-in with a ghost on the property, but it turned out to be a little different from that plot wise. Some of the very specific in-universe rules governing Ben’s state were a little bizarre, and there were a few really direct, in-your-face moments of insta-love or showing established relationships. In other words, I was shown and not told. Pretty much paint by numbers, but it aimed high.
