I absolutely ate this up. I wish there were a dozen more books after this, a full series. Rebecca Makkai is very good at saying a lot in a few words, especially in the anecdotes throughout this book. Dang.

My first Makkai. A refreshingly fast read while I continue to slog my way through denser material. Chock-full of zeitgeisty topics (true crime, podcasting, #MeToo, social-media trolling and sniping and what-about-ing, nineties nostalgia, etc.) that thankfully don’t just feel thrown together. Was genuinely interested in the central mystery and taken by Makkai’s ability to capture modern online discourse in its myriad forms. Saw someone describe this as a “literary page-turner,” which I guess just means it’s a good story written well? Which … seems like something every plot-forward book should strive for, but ¯\(ツ)/¯.
