I'm not always one for page-turners, but Makkai's latest had me. Of course, having graduated from high school in 1995 and being a podcast lover in 2023, I Have Some Questions For You had elements firmly in my wheelhouse.

For those considering reading this book, it is so much more than a whodunit by forcing the reader to reflect on how much has changed since the 1990s and how our words and actions can unintentionally impact others in a major way.

I Have Some Questions For You is so much of our moment yet reflective without being nostalgic. My only quibble is with the title. I found it difficult to remember and while by the end of the book, I understood its intention more fully, I think it does the book a disservice in trying to get it out into the world.

This was not the murder mystery I was expecting. Instead, it feels like an incredibly long, drawn out political statement (about cancel culture, sexual assault, age gaps in relationships, the justice system, marital abuse, gender norms, the me too movement, misogyny) - I think the author should have had a more concrete focus on only a few of those issues? Also, I HATE when books bring up the pandemic, and the last third of the book would not stop talking about it. I felt like the author was trying very hard to be woke but you could tell she’s a white lady idk. There was also WAY too many characters it was hard to know who was who most of the time. The main character was not even likeable either. I did enjoy the narration of it though, but it was not worth it. Sorry for the unpopular opinions.
