Feminist fiction that has a great plot, an unusual speaker/audience structure, relatable characters, intrigue, social issues, and a strong, smart, female protagonist. Going to recommend to my Feminist Book Group.
I could not put this book down. The story and writing is engaging and compelling. When she references instances of violence to women - “that was the one where he did this to her” or “she was the one that had to do this to try to protect herself from him” - these are interspersed throughout the book and in each mention, I felt my stomach and heart sink. That there is so much violence against women and yet we go right on, marking the next act. I really like how she did that - much more powerful than spelling it out.

Read this for book club and I generally enjoy mystery’s. I’d pass on this one but it was readable enough that I finished it. Here is why:
-I took issue with a few non mystery related story gaps I had to fight my way through to figure out early on. - - Nothing was really happening and story dragged needlessly.
- Overly poetic narrator didn’t suit her personality.
-The ending was not gratifying. While I appreciate not everyone has to tie off a story with a bow, the end was a long time coming while also being abrupt.

Great beach read book, entertaining and tense without keeping you up at night.
The narration was great, and the story was interesting. I was expecting more of a podcast-type narration, but Bodie is narrating the story to her old music teacher. The story centers around the murder of Bodie’s roommate when she was at Granby. I liked that she tested out the theory of several different people committing the murder, one at a time, including the person who is serving time. In addition, you find out who did commit the murder. The book has a lot to say about crimes against women and the justice system. Overall, an enjoyable listen.
Did not like the way it was written and the FMC was insufferable
