Definitely a different take on the post apocalyptic alien story. A good read that I wanted to finish all in one sitting. It gave my book club lots to discuss. The ending was a surprise and the purpose/story line makes you think.

I was drawn into the lives as Poe and August survive the lonely world that has an element of worry as to when the creatures will show up. Or worse, what will they run into in survivors. The cool thing with survivors is what we learn.

Oh, you know you're attached to characters and their journey when you tear up. I did just that in the end of the story. Wow. I knew I was attached but didn't realize how much until it hit me.

I would’ve almost rated this 5 stars but I was annoyed...

—-and I don’t think this is a spoiler, but you’ve been warned——

anyway, I was annoyed that one of the main characters couldn’t brain storm some other solution rather than riding a bike across the country. I mean come on!! An electric motorized scooter? A moped? An electric car for crying out loud!! None of those is much more conspicuous than a bike and it’d cut your travel time 10-fold!!!

This book was just too verbose for me. Describing an item in five sentences when five words would suffice. I like the premise and the story was good, but too much fluff.

Not one of his funny sarcastic ones that he has recently been known for, but absolutely one of his best. Characters were distinct and rich. Story and explanations were wonderful.

Jeremy teams up with his wife Hilaree for her debut novel in this intriguing sci-fi epic.

We get thrown into the mystery fairly quickly, with the event that sets up the rest of the tale happening within the first few pages - all of a sudden, every human on the planet except two are turned to dust at once. Why were these two spared? Can they find each other? How do they survive in a world where they are suddenly the last two humans on the planet?

The first half of the book goes into detail about what the world is like now and the difficulties the survivors face. The second half then answers the lingering questions.

Overall a truly great tale, and an impressive debut for Hilaree!
