4.5 A stand-alone follow up to Amal Unbound with all the heart and courage of the original. Omar’s journey towards understanding the injustice he is enduring and standing up for himself and others to change the system is inspiring and nuanced. All together a well-written, spare novel that packs a punch and exposes readers to life in another part of the world.

I am so glad that Omar got a chance to tell his story (and that we get some glimpses of Amal).
Love the tagline of this one - "When the system is broken you have to rise up!"

Excellent sequel to Amal Unbound, about her friend Omar, who experiences injustice as a student on scholarship at an elite private school in Pakistan. Important, warm-hearted read for young kids; a true celebration of resistance and hope.

This companion book to [b:Amal Unbound|36086513|Amal Unbound|Aisha Saeed|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1509102472l/36086513._SY75_.jpg|45632570] covers Omar's first year at a prestigious boarding school. It is a much different experience than he expected, and not just because it is more rigorous academically than his village school. As a scholarship boy, he learns that he is not on equal footing with the rest of the students. He has different requirements and restrictions, which drastically affect his time there. Omar is determined to succeed, no matter what hurdles are placed in front of him. Recommended for grades 4 & up.

Thank you to Penguin Random House for my free copy!

This is a great middle grade book about education in another country and how it might look. There's a lot to talk about here between kids and their adults, like class, "good trouble," and art.
