Heat Level: Scorching (this is erotica)

This is a confusing book for me. I went into it expecting a fun time and honestly to laugh because monster sex sounds ridiculous. However, what I ended up with was that, but also more. This is erotica with heart. That sounds so weird. I don't have a lot of experience with erotica because I find that the plot and character development never seems up to par, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

This is a reverse harem romance/erotica story that somehow managed to not only have some veeeerrrry spicy scenes that were well done, but also managed to make me love the characters. The heroine likes herself some sex, which seems obvious, but what made me really like her was her attitude about it. She was enthusiastic and unapologetic. She is who she is and she does what she wants. This is set in a historical setting, so obviously women were not allowed to want to feel pleasure or really want anything for themselves. There are a couple of moments where there is a bit of shaming coming from other characters, but the heroine addresses them with a giant middle finger. lol

The "men" (they aren't men, but self-proclaimed monsters) were charming and sweet and bizarre. I know this is about some monster sex, but it's also about being loved, accepted, and wanted even when you aren't conventionally beautiful on the outside. And it was well done. This book is such an enigma to me. It seems the author writes a lot of reverse harem stories and this isn't her first, but it's just so well done! There is a lot of sex of all different kinds so I feel like it has a little something for everyone! lol

A couple things on the con side. If you're expecting a major plot, you won't find one. At the core, this is a romance. This is about consensual sex with multiple partners and feelings develop and it's adorable. So the relationships are at the forefront of the story. About halfway through we start to get some plot, but the first half is really her working out how she's going to handle more than one partner. She also has some character development that I thought was lovely. Another con is that this has a lot of sex in it. Now I know that is a "duh" moment, but it was so much that I had to read it in shorter sections to not get sick of reading them. Again, I will say I don't read a lot of erotica so this may be a me thing, but I would not recommend reading this in one sitting. I enjoyed going back to it over days because it was fun and the writing was good.

Overall, I would recommend it if it sounds like something you'd be into, but also if you're just curious and want to see what all this monster sex is about. lol
