Book Report: Nice Girls Don’t Win
First Glance: Parvati… say no more.
The Jist: A memoir about survival, trauma, and healing, from one of reality television’s most talked-about stars… Parvati Shallows.
My thoughts: Parvati fan newbie here… I’m a Big Brother fan and haven’t made my way to the Survivor franchise just yet. My introduction to this badass woman was on The Traitor’s. I was captivated every time she was in frame… a google rabbit hole later I was pleasantly surprised to see her memoir was releasing shortly. Thanks to PRH Audio I was able to get my hand on an ALC narrated by the queen herself! I loved hearing about Parvati’s upbringing on a commune in Florida and how her name was given to her. Her dream to become a star and proving to everyone when she did. With touching and deeply vulnerable moments shared it made me pause multiple times and remember… I’m reading a celeb memoir… making it stand on its own and be enjoyed by a wide range of audience.
Cue the Survivor moment I’m about to have.
My question for Parvati: Spirituality can be intimidating when you’re first starting, what’s one small, tangible practice that helped you begin to feel connected to yourself?
Thank you PRH Audio for the ALC

As a Survivor mega fan, being able to peak into Parvati's, one of if not THE most iconic player in my mind, life and what she's gone through was incredibly interesting.
She takes you and shows you a side of herself that reality TV viewers haven't really gotten to see and I throughly enjoyed it

I’m always interested in the behind the scenes of reality shows and in my opinion, Parvati is one of the most iconic reality TV characters. I knew some about her personal life, but this book details a lot of things I didn’t know. I wasn’t sure if reading this would make me change how I view her, but it really does. She was a bit villainous and unlikable on DONDI (especially with regards to Phillip), but this book makes me take another perspective and I feel for her now in the way that Phillip came after her a bit. She’s lived so much of her life as this character and people obviously have a hard time separating her from the Black Widow. I was already going to watch Survivor: Australia vs The World, but now I’m even more excited to watch Parv play knowing what I know about her now.
Was the book super well-written? Well, no. There were some parts that were a bit repetitive to the point where I wondered if I’d accidentally hit rewind on my audio. But it was definitely fun to listen to Parv tell her own story and imitate the different people she mentions (her Alan Cumming impression made me chuckle). Overall, I liked getting to know Parvati on a deeper level and I’d probably read any memoir from a Survivor player.
Note: I received access to an early audio version thanks to PRH Audio in exchange for an honest review.

Parvati!! As soon as I saw this available it was an immediate download. This did get a little too hippie dippy for me the last 20% but I loved the rest of it.
From her childhood as part of a commune - her parents escaping a cult. To her teenaged and college years - popularity, using her beauty. Then moving to LA with friends and trying out for amazing race only to be cast in survivor 3 times! Winning the million once. The world had her pinned as a villain and it took playing a traitor in traitors for her to break free.
I enjoyed hearing about her desire to find love and have a child and then navigating the grief over the loss of her young brother to an overdose and ultimately ending her marriage.
We get a little bit about traitors and even a tiny bit of deal or no deal (basically just a small reference).
The part about her finding love again is the part that lost me a bit. She realizes she can break free of all the expectations when queer. She’s in a non binary relationship. Shes found peace with herself. I can see how trauma from her childhood definitely shaped her.
I really enjoyed Parv on traitors so it was great learning more about the person behind the screen.
