i totally feel this. growing up in the scenic hudson valley in new york, surrounded by mountains and rivers and woods, then moving to seoul where everything is paved over... it really does something to a person. im a woods person not a city person.

Die wohltuende, entzückende Geschichte von Heidi, ihrem Großvater, dem Peterli, der Großmutter, Bärli, Schwänli, der Klara Sesemann und allen anderen Figuren, war einfach das entspannendste Buch, das ich seit Jahren gelesen habe. Die ständige Freude vom Heidi ist ansteckend, und ich habe durch dieses Buch meine Liebe für einfache Sachen, die Natur, die Alpen, und die Schweiz wieder entdeckt. Danke Johanna Spyri für eine der besten Kindergeschichten aller Zeiten! Das Buch empfehle ich LeserInnenn aller Alter.

Now this was no Anne of Green Gables, howsoever, it was still a comforting cocoon of a book. I remember reading a short story earlier in my school days and I found it oddly off-putting? So I found myself not reaching for it, but now I thought it was about time. And I enjoyed it. It was cute.
Finally finally finally we got a grandmother that was wholesome- sadly I haven't read a lot about wholesome loving grandmothers in literature (recs will be welcomed) but this one was so adorable.

I never read this book as a child. I watched one of the film versions lately and decided it was time I read the book for myself. I'm glad I've read it but I have to say I found the religious paragraphs a bit over the top, and the language a bit dated.
