Great play. I love how the Duchess is so witty.

One of the darkest plays I've read, particularly when it comes to free will vs. fate and the malleability of human nature.

Another school read I finished this month! I've been really enjoying the reads I have to do for my literature class, including the play of The Duchess of Malfi! Overall, I love all characters and their weird dialogues and the only thing that really frustrated me, was the time jumps during the play but considering that it was a play and not an actual novel, I still gave it 4/5 stars :)

A gruesome book for sure and especially so when you delve into the context of Webster's life but fascinating and complex.
Perhaps not the most satisfying ending but definitely one that tied a lot of things up and a lot of things the reader wants throughout the play ends up happening which is bittersweet

Overall hard to read but definitely one worth suffering through for the bits of gold between long paragraphs whispering nothings over and over again

Duchess of Malfi is an incredibly interesting text, and a staple in Western dramatic history. However, the thriller aspect of the play is better suited to watch unfold on stage, rather than reading for pleasure.

Like Game of Thrones for the early 17th century.

In a mist; I know not how: Such a mistake as I have often seen In a play. O, I am gone! We are only like dead walls or vaulted graves, That, ruin'd, yield no echo. Fare you well. It may be pain, but no harm, to me to die In so good a quarrel. O, this gloomy world! In what a shadow, or deep pit of darkness, Doth womanish and fearful mankind live! Let worthy minds ne'er stagger in distrust To suffer death or shame for what is just: Mine is another voyage.
