When the Wolf Comes Home is reminiscent of all of my favourite horror classics in all the best ways. I think the synopsis is best left to the imagination when it comes to a book like this so I won't say too much but every chapter was wild and unexpected and exactly what I want going into a horror novel. It was brutal, fun, and sometimes hit a bit too close to home, making the reading experience the perfect emotional roller coaster (I love to cry). Nat Cassidy is quickly cementing himself as one of my favourites in the genre and I cannot wait to read more.

Big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eArc of this book!

Gahhhhhhhhh I am a fan of this man!!!! This is my 3rd Nat Cassidy and much like the last 2 I've read (Mary and Nestlings) When the Wolf Comes Home is an absolute FEVER DREAM. Fast paced, unhinged, gory, funny? (yes, at times) truly unputdownable. This definitely gave me Jumanji Vibes if the movie was written and directed by The Brothers Grimm, with a bit of Harold and the Purple Crayon, except our creepy little one (unnamed for a reason) only needed belief, fear, and imagination to make the most dark and macabre things come to life. This book had me a bit afraid of my own imagination but what I loved the most about this book was the underlying story about fathers, their children and what impact they make as well as the effect they have on us whether that be positive or negative. NOTE TO READERS.....PLEASE do NOT skip the AFTERWORD. It had me just as emotional as the book and certainly brought a lot of perspective to the story. I highly recommend this When the Wolf Comes Home but please check your triggers before going in.

Thank you, Tor/Forge and NetGalley for my ARC

"The wolf always comes home. In fact, sometimes it's already here."

This is a story about grief and growth. A damn good one at that.

When I first began reading this book, I got the impression that it would've been like the "Wishful Thinking" episode of Supernatural, while there are certain similarities, they are completely distinct pieces.

I felt truly immersed in this story and could feel the anxiety running through the characters' bodies in my fast beating heart. Part of me could literally visualize the story as a movie (hint for any studios reading this). In my humble opinion, this is a true body horror movie.

"Nobody hides like tears, we could learn a thing from them."

The bond between Jess and the boy is so strong you can almost touch it. Speaking of this bond, I did not see that one final twist coming at all. Also, did Chapter 54 remind anyone else of The Mist? Speaking of references, I literally cackled when I saw Intensity in the acknowledgments because there are so many parallels between these leading ladies.

I said this while reading the book, but I didn't want it to be over. I grew so attached to these characters in 48h I was having a hard time letting them go.

I loved loved loved this story and also appreciated reading you be vulnerable with us. Please don't stop writing such amazing Afterwords. Hoping to read more new books from you soon!
