This book was so damn cute it hurt. It's the only book published in this series so far, and I had a little toddler tantrum when I realized I had to wait to keep reading. Note: this is a story told over several books, so there are plenty of plot threads that aren't tied up here. In particular, if you are used to romantic relationships being culminated in a single book, know that the main relationship here looks like it will grow more naturally over multiple books. So enjoy it -- don't rush through looking for the climax. (See what I did there?)

WHAT I LIKED
-----------------
- Quick and witty dialogue
- Main female character is full of real flaws - easy to identify with and laugh with
- The best friend, who I see as Dolly Parton from Steel Magnolias
- Gallows humor. I LOVE GALLOWS HUMOR, and this book does not disappoint
- Real kids. So many authors put kids in books but obviously haven't actually met kids in real life. I fell in love with this messy family right out the gate.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
--------------------
- I wished the story moved a little faster, because I'm impatient
- There are some things that seemed obvious to me that the main character didn't pick up on. I felt like there were enough clues available to the character that she should have figured things out earlier.

If you like dark humor, real messy people, and wicked sarcasm, I highly recommend.

disappointed by this book.

i normally love grim reaper series (Darynda Jones, charley davidson comes to mind), but this...seem to just touch on it slightly.

Mostly it was about a woman getting over her husbands death, finding out he was a grim reaper (and we didnt find out much), the induction (which went on for pages all about health check, psych checks, paperwork filing, a physical test, walking around the building, going into "command central"), looking after her 3 children.

The biggest scene was her daughter being in a car accident similar to how her father died, and being ok with jsut a broken arm.

Didnt find much about the characters. Only 2 reapings done throughout the book, which was a little lack lustre.
I found myself skimming the last 20 pages, as nothing else happens.

it feels like a preface for a book. but i was expecting more of a story here too, and there was none.
i dont like to not like books, as i know the authors spend so much time and energy and effort into writing them, and i guess you cant please all the people all of the time, and im sorry i didnt like it!

A new take (at least for me) on death. As a fan of Boone Brux, I found her humor in this story laugh out loud. She also puts in real life drama, sarcasm, and sadness.

This was...okay. It was SUUUPER short. I'm not sure how this one slipped by me. I don't usually waste my time with "books" that are under 200 pages. I see this one's 174. It could have been much better had there been a little more to the story. But there were too many things left undone and it was very short on details. I won't read any more, but it was okay.

I won a copy from Goodreads first reads. I also wanted to say thanks for the bookmarks. I enjoyed reading this book. The only real issue I had with it was just leading up to another book and it did real have any big ending. I has more of a cliffhanger ending of something might be happening. I thought author did a good job of hooking the reader in the first chapter which is one of the most important things for a book to do. I also enjoyed Lisa Carron because she acted how a normal person would act. She was far from perfect but she was trying. Overall, the story is read and is quick read for weekend/trip but I would make sure to get the next book the series that it might not feel like such a cliffhanger ending .

4.5*

An interesting set of characters which have the potential to become amazing. A wonderful sense of humour some self deprecating which had me giggling a few times. The only reason for me it is not 5* is the unfortunately rather easy to guess plot line at times. I hope that it gets better. I want to read far more reaping antics and less what could happens.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the fact that the main character was a mom in her 30s who needed to lose a little weight. This was a fast and easy read. I will definitely read the next. novel in the series.

I received this book from a First Reads giveaway.

I really only started to like it in the last two chapters. The rest was exposition upon exposition, telling instead of showing. It seems like an extended prologue, but it had some promise, and I might give the next book in the series a shot.

There are some typos and punctuation errors, and the writing is fine at best. I'm glad I was able to try it without paying and being disappointed.

This was such a cute book, I wish it had been longer. I loved the sarcasm and self assertiveness of the main character, Lisa Carron. It reminds me a lot of myself and some of my friends. I would have given this a full five stars except for the numerous grammatical errors throughout. Just needed a bit more editing. Other than that, I absolutely loved this a will definitely read the next in the series.

This is a wonderfully funny book! I couldn't stop laughing while reading about this widowed mother of three that suddenly finds out that she is a grim reaper of all things! She decides to just go with it, since it is a paying job after all! Plus, of course, she would be doing a great service to the world.

The author has captured my attention with this book, and I look forward to reading more of her work. I can't wait for the next book in this series!
