This picked up around the halfway mark. I was surprised by some of the characters actions. I thought I had them pegged and they turned out to be altogether different.

An amazing historical fiction book that features three German woman from different backgrounds and what happened during World War 2.

Once she arrives her aunt begins to give he clothes and jewelry, and Hannah soon uncovers a sinister plan, they want her to marry SS officer Friedrich Schroeder whose older than her, Hanna doesn’t know what to do.
Klara Schmidt’s mother is part of the same circle as Hannah’s aunt and uncle. Klara and Hannah meet at the Bund Deutscher Madel) which is a a Hitler youth group which Hanna is being forced to attend. At this school young German women receive training on how to be a perfect wife so when the time comes to marry a Nazi officer they know how to behave. Hannah dreams of her escape.
Klara was hoping that SS officer Friedrich Schroeder would ask her to marry, but he decides to ask Hanna.

In Germany, at the start of WWII, Hanna is sent to live with her wealthy aunt and uncle and matched with a Nazi soldier against her will. She lives the life of wealth and fortune, although miserable about her impending marriage. Alternately, Tilde, a poor Jewish woman, found the love of her life, only to be torn apart by war.

I really enjoyed this historical fiction novel! I liked how Hanna and Tilde were so different from one another, but I enjoyed reading both of the women’s stories. The chapters alternated POVs, which always captures my attention and keeps me wanting to read. Both women were fighting battles, just different ones, and I enjoyed rooting for them equally. It was also an interesting take on a WWII novel where the war was not the sole focus of the book, but rather how the women’s lives were impacted by it, despite monetary status, and how Hanna felt about being matched with a Nazi soldier✨

The book was interesting and I enjoyed it as that, a story. I only had an issue with the girls being so willing to help a Jew as much as they did. That was very unrealistic to me and makes me nervous that books like that dilute the horror of that time.
