I wanted to like this book. The premise sounded perfect when I first picked it up. However, the plot is boring 😴 I cannot bring myself to care about these characters nor their budding relationship.

A cute sapphic romance read, with real characters and real feelings. I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship, and the way that conflict was dealt with and resolved fairly quickly without endless chapters of whining and suffering because of miscommunication!

I don't think the blurb was really accurate for this book though. There was never really any rivals elements, except sometimes in Grace's mind. But the blurb makes it sound like they spend half the novel competing against each other which just doesn't really happen.

I really enjoyed the ADHD and autism rep in this too, and though I don't personally have either of them I know enough people that do to think it was good representation. I also loved Teddy! I think that knowing about and enjoying women's football (soccer 🙄) adds to the enjoyment of this book, but as with most sports romances it definitely isn't necessary.

All in all it was a great light-hearted romance which I really enjoyed reading - though I did tear up when Grace and her Dad had their heart-to-heart!

I have complicated feelings about this book. Because I do love a sapphic romance with a cast of diverse queer characters and a super lovable gay friend group. However, I really did not enjoy reading about either of these main characters. There were times where I felt like it didn't make sense why these two women even liked each other because the only thing they really had in common was soccer. Their personalities were polar opposites and I felt a lot of the time that Grace just basically tolerated Phoebe, but didn't love her. I recognize there is nuance to that, but this just didn't feel as enjoyable of a read as my previous book from this author. It seems like Meryl Wilsner is a hit or miss author for me and so far I've only genuinely enjoyed one of the books she's written. I will undoubtably read the next one she puts out though.
