Definitely not the story I was expecting. I have been a long time fan of the film adaptation and to find out the information the film used came from the last 2 hours or so of the audiobook was somewhat disappointing.

3.5 stars. Enjoyed the story + characters but the writing was messy + hard to initially grasp. Also I know this was originally published in 1995 *but* I wasn’t a fan of the emphasis on physical beauty equating to worth (example being when we’re introduced to the characters and their physical traits are described) I do plan to read the other books in the series tho!!

Watched the movie for the first time last fall so decided to listen and as per usual the book was better than the movie. Plus there's more books 😁 its very similar to the movie but there are differences that I really enjoyed.

The daughters being older gave some more character to the story overall, because you get to enjoy a multi-generational sister dynamic that we miss out on in the movie with the daughters being young.

Definitely felt a bit like a rushed plot. Not completely like the movie and not as witchy as I was hoping for it to be. But still fun.
