I like it much better than the original Hobbit novel... lol! I read this after watching the movies. It was cool to see all the differences. I think any of the things I didn't like have more to do with the original novel than with this adaptation. (For example, how the relationship between Bilbo and the dwarves is told rather than shown. I'm really not a fan of Tolkien's writing when it comes to characters and this novel seems to have stayed pretty faithful to the original novel, so it's not really a surpise that the parts of the original novel that I didn't like bothered me when I read this.)
I love the artwork so much. The watercolor paintings are so cozy and homely to me. My favorite sceneries were Beorn's house and fields, Mirkwood, and the Shire (in that order). It was so pleasant to read through those sections. I loved seeing Beorn in this book. He was so much better than in the movie!! (The dwarves were better in the movie, in my opinion... and the Elvenking too. What can I say? Lee Pace is nice to look at...) I like this version of Bilbo and the movie Bilbo equally. I can't pick one.
Overall, it was a wonderful book. I'd totally read it again and I'd definitely recommend it, even if you're someone who didn't like the original book.
