A very well illustrated graphic novel of a famous book! I really enjoyed reading this. The illustrations look a bit old fashioned but they do not deviate from the story line and the descriptions are apt. Most of the subject matter has been condensed in the speech bubbles and we don’t lose any vital part of the plot. The colour scheme looks really pleasing to the eyes and I enjoyed reading this book.

As for the story,it is quite a serious one but not without its moments of wit. I was able to reminisce about the novel I’d read before while reading this graphic version. Pick it up if you’re a fan of Tolkien. You won’t be disappointed!

It was enjoyable and decently paced but I found the dragons death underwhelming as he was one-shoted by a newly introduced side character.

2.5 stars. I thought with this being a Graphic Novel version of a very popular story film franchise that it would be easier for me to get through. Unfortunately I still struggled with it I've never read either a Graphic Novel or the tome that this based on. For a GN I was expecting more from the quality of the art work. I also had trouble reading bits of the text very frequently it's seemed like background and text were as one not only this but the style that the editor used to tell the story in, didn't help the other issue either.
I know this will be a unpopular thought but bare in mind all are entitled to there opinions.

Good drawings even if they were too cartoonish for my taste.

In 2014, I did the random house reading bingo challenge and this was one of the books I read for the YA card. It was an interesting book. Probably not one that I would have read otherwise, but I liked it.

This is the definite illustrated version of the classic fantasy work by JRR Tolkien. It is beautifully illustrated, faithful to the original material and full of expression and detail that could well be of cinematic quality. This version holds up to the test of time even 30 years later, thanks to the source material and the attention Dixon and Wenzel put into their adaptation.

I found it really interesting that the graphic novel came out more than 10 years before the LOTR movies. That way the illustrations aren't in any way influenced by the film portrayal of characters. As Hobbit is more of a children's book, the art looks accordingly.
There was way too much description where there could've been dialogues. It is Tolkien's way but I prefer plot in graphic novels/coming books developing faster. There were also some logical inconsistencies in the story.

Let me start by saying that, "The Hobbit" by J. R. R. Tolkien is not one of my favorite books so a five-star rating would be impossible for any adaptation of it.

That said, this graphic adaptation of The Hobbit does a solid job of sharing the story in this particular writing format. The voice of the narrator helps move the story along while filling in necessary details to the plot.

There is an overwhelming amount of text on most of the pages, making it a little tiresome to navigate compared to most graphic novels. It is understandable because there is a lot to cover in the original story, but it does make it tricky to read at times.

Overall, I think this is a great adaptation for fans of graphic novels. It would be a good way to introduce the story or to enjoy it in a different format.
