This book is weirdly a mix of obvious foreshadowing and a lack of clarity. I could see the ending coming, but the build up left much to be desired.

A slow build of suspense and foreboding that turns into a deliciously wicked twist ending.

I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is a mystery. A story about some teenagers going out for a camping holiday in a group of five. The protagonist Heather only agrees to go there to be close to Dougie. Three of his friends are also there. Then they disturb a pagan burial site, and Heather feels that they have awoken an evil spirit. One year later, Heather is waiting for Dougie to wake from his coma, because she desperately needs him to prove her sanity and innocence.

Oh wow this was awesome. The narrative switches between "then" and "now", so we basically get two different stories told. It is really well done and plays together well. The characters are really interesting, and I loved that the mystery wasn't really resolved until the very end. Wow, it was so good and I didn't see it coming at all. I would definitely recommend it if you loved We Were Liars or Vanishing Girls.

Good gripping story and I loved the characters, but it felt like the last few pages were rushed and suddenly I didn't like the end, it was a shame. It would of been four but I was disappointed with the end. But I think I need to reread it to see.

More like a 1.5 rating. I was excited for this book - the premise definitely intrigued me. But in the end, it had a lot of typical YA, horror tropes that made it fairly predictable and just kind of boring. We have five teenagers (who can all be slated into the Cabin in the Woods archetypes quite neatly) who don't even seem to really like each other so why they're going camping together is beyond me. Lots of drama. They disrupt an ancient Druid site and things get pretty weird. Oh, and there's a twist at the end. Unfortunately I saw that one coming even though the author never really indicates that. The main character has all the hallmarks of being an unreliable narrator but the author never explores that fully, which is a shame because that would have been fun. All around, I wouldn't recommend this one. Check out books by Denis Lehane or Shirley Jackson instead if you want creepy settings and unreliable narrators.

I recommend reading this one in the dark for a good, proper, scare.

As a YA book the writing style is a little smplistic but the story makes up for this. Gripping read that really hooks you in. Did feel the ending was a little rushed and didn't entirely feel like it fitted with rest of the book, character motivations etc. But minor point, enjoyable read.
