Didn't get really interesting until the last third of the book. I really don't know how I stuck with it. I guess because I had nothing else to listen to!

I really liked this book, but the ending mystified me. Anyone else scratching their head?

Bleh. This was a very dull book that left me with a lot of questions. I never did figure out why she decided to go back to her hometown that specific second - did someone call her? Or not? The entire book is about her figuring out that she DID see what happened but convinced herself she didn't. What kind of plot is that? Very disappointing.

This was a strange book, but I enjoyed it. A woman recognizes something from her childhood that she feels she needs to bring into the open. Her best friend when she was a child was abducted, but she remembers it differently. Her ventures back into her childhood shed light on what kind of person she was.

An understated and somewhat ambiguous story, essentially about Celia, a woman in her early 30s, trying to come to terms with things that happened in her childhood, for which she bears some responsibility. Goldberg really works at depicting the relationship dynamics over action, which she does very well. The characters are well realised. Much of the drama in the plot is down to Celia's personal epiphanies as she reviews and investigates her childhood. What is sacrificed in drama is made up in realism and atmosphere - I think Goldberg manages the balance very well.

This was a relatively short book and a somewhat quick read. The story had a lot of promise, but the ending was very disappointing and I kept wondered where was the resolution= what happened to Celia and Huck? The story kept me intrigued until the end which soured me on the book a little. I also found the overall dialogue between the characters somewhat unrealistic. The entire time, I kept wondering what 32 year old woman still constantly refers to her mother as "mommy".

In a book where nothing happens, the characters should at least be well fleshed-out, but such is not the case here. The protagonist is boring as hell, so you don't care for any of the revelations she might have about herself. Add to that an ambiguous ending and there is very little to take from this novel.

I could not make it through this book. So much whiny poor poor me from the main character. The main character is horrible! I hated her. She just complained the whole time about how upset she was by something she did in her childhood and now she has to go back and face the people she caused pain…but it really didn’t seem like that big of a deal. Not like she will go to jail since she did x which would be a reason to be so freaking overdramatic. I couldn’t get through it. More power to you if you can.
