I really enjoyed this book. It sucked me in and I wanted to keep reading. The description doesn't do the plot justice, but I can see how they didn't want to give anything away - people would be quick to judge. I like the change from past to present and thought it was done well.
A fast, somewhat dark read with some unexpected twists, but it would have been better if it had been darker.
dark
I received this as a galley copy from the publisher. It was dark and twisty -- perfectly so. I loved it. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I'd pitch it as in the same tone as Gillian Flynn. Like I said, delightfully dark and twisty.
Ani is trying to escape her past and move forward with her new life - but that’s hard to do when a documentary is being made about your traumatic past, one where a lot of blame was placed on you. Torn between clearing her name and reliving her trauma, Ani must make a decision to participate, despite what her fiancé thinks. This book flashes back between now and then, giving us a big picture of why Ani is struggling with this decision.

Incredibly gripping and inspiring. I just couldn’t put it down; all I wanted was to know what mysterious horrible thing happened to the main character. And even once I knew I was still intrigued and couldn’t stop reading. And I’m glad I read the author’s secret note after finishing because it made the story all the more impactful. So good!!

What are we to think when as readers we enter the first page with TifAni FaNelli examining a knife and idly wondering what would happen if she stabbed her fiancé, Luke?
She is also wondering what reporters would think, as opposed to registering the silverware for her wedding.
As we get into the story, we find that “Ani” had traumas in her past. They were violent and notorious. She has since reinvented herself. But, has she truly recovered?
The book’s chapters alternate between present-day life for Ani in NY – where she is preparing for her wedding and for an HBO documentary about the unnamed traumas – and her memories of her first months at her prep school she attended – the Bradley School.
It has been years since these nightmares occurred for her, but as an adult she still is rattled with emotions.
Obviously, these memories are leading up to some climax reveal and as readers we are being led down the path to finding out whatever those traumas were.
Tension is held tight by the author.
As readers we have mixed feelings about Ani/TifAni. (Well, I do.)
Are we considering her:
Sympathetic? Manipulative? Judgmental? Materialistic?
Do we:
Love her or hate her?
Want her to move on from her past?
Is this book…
Chick-lit with handsome fiancé? Or hidden depths for discovery? Or both?
Is this…
Book better than the movie (Netflix)? or vice versa?
3.5 stars.

This book was so boring for the first half of the book, it really felt like someone complaining about their super entitled life. I kept wondering what the heck is even going on? The last third of the book however FINALLY finally redeemed itself. I was SO mad at the main character for so SO much of the book, that I'm relieved by the ending. I almost DNF'd this book though like 10 times, so that's why the three stars.
