This book has two separate storylines and it would have been a lot better if it was two books. One is from the characters teenage perspective, where the character transfers to a new High School and has to deal with completely unbelievable, over the top high school experiences. This part of the book was acceptable because the main character was likable. You felt for her and wanted to see her overcome it all.

The second storyline is about the same character but she is in her late 20s. She has created the perfect life for herself. She lives in the most perfect area of Manhattan, has the perfect rich finance, the perfect writing job, the perfect engagement ring, and the perfect body due to her starvation diet. She's unlikable, she's bitchy, she's mean and she sucks.

So yeah. You have one good character with an awful plot and a second plot that is just unneeded.

I did give this book two stars though because the audiobook was well produced. From an actual writing prospective, I felt the author did a great job. Often, "chick lit" can read as amateur, lazy, or sophomoric. I never felt like that when listening to this novel.

I bought this because it was on the front stand in my local Waterstones as thriller of the month. I have genuinely never picked up a book from that area that I disliked until this one. It would have been a 1 star rating but I realise some people probably will enjoy it, but I'm certainly not one of them

I wasn't quite sure if you were meant to dislike the lead character Ani immediately and warm to her as you discovered her tragic tale.. the characterisation was pretty unclear. I think I am really the author's target demographic, but her pop culture references were shallow and pretty obvious. The reason why the film Mean Girls is so good is because of the brutal honesty and black humour.. LGA seemed to want to be Mean Girls but threw in some adult 'themes' for show. I was really unimpressed with pretty much the entire book - it was also too long! I read quickly but it became such a struggle I almost broke my "finish every book rule".

This book had a decently page-turning storyline but the main character was incredibly mean and unlikable for so much of it. Felt like it was trying way to hard to be disturbing.

Not a storyline I've read before which is refreshing even if the subject matter can be hard to read about.

I listened to this as an audio book and I didn't even finish it. I found myself not caring what happened. The plot has a lot of potential but it's just so boring.

So, I didn't love this book, but I didn't hate it either... At the start, I felt that the characters were ignorant and entitled. But as more raw details of Ani's past emerged and explained some of her prickly personality and desire for security, I suppose I took more of a liking to her after all. There are a lot of triggers within these pages. I was slightly dissatisfied that there wasn't a more cohesive flow in the storytelling and a better resolve.

This novel did have great potential. The harrowing descriptions of the sexual assaults and school shooting are traumatic, but it's like a car crash - you can't look away. I found most of the characters pretty unlikeable, especially Ani. It kept me pretty invested in the latter half of the novel. In a way, the ending was satisfying enough, with Ani coming to terms with all that has happened to her in her life, and choosing to confront those demons and start being a more honest person-to others and especially to herself.

Totally addicting, twisted, guilty pleasure read. Warning that there are definitely some disturbing elements.

I just started listening to this book without realizing I had already read it. I’m a quarter of the way through it and still not feeling familiar. Thinking the rating might change
