Sometimes publishers and other important people wanna know where I find new books to read. Of course I find most of my books via either Goodreads or Instagram. The latter is also responsible for how I came across this book. I saw a pretty pic of it that captured my attention, decided to check the book out, discovered that it was a dark academia with norse mythology and decided to grab myself a copy. Yesterday I started reading and I was really curious what I'd find.

This book is a fast and easy read. Once I got started I could read almost 2/3rd of the book in one sitting. That's also because the book doesn't just look pretty on the outside. It also looks pretty on the inside. Every new chapter starts with a little drawing, notes and texts are easily recognizable as such and the book is divided into four parts and each of those parts starts with another beautiful page with a poem and artwork.

The writing also made the book very easy to read. I'm not sure if it's because of the translation, but at times the writing seemed a little too simple. There wasn't much variation in sentence structure and a lot of things were told and not shown. Especially the romantic subplots could have had more impact if there had been more time to read about the development of all those feelings. Now we were told that characters were in love with each other, but we never got the chance to get invested ourselves.

However, the overal plot and atmosphere was lovely. I really enjoyed our heroines trying to figure out what had happened and I also really like how this story is far from over and how there is more to come, while there is also a sort of satisfying conclusion. I also really enjoyed the magic and how it was rooted in Norse mythology. Everything felt really well thought out and it was easy to understand how the different types of magic worked.

I'll certainly read the sequel when it's released in English!

Ok, oh boy where to I start? At first I was excited to read this book because I had been trying to read more... international books. I had liked the summary of this book and was excited to see another magical boarding school setting. This book though reminded me almost too much of Harry Potter. While in the mist of reading this book I decided to translate other reviews to see what they thought and not to my surprise people were saying Wattpad harry potter was better than this. I would hate to be that harsh but I have to agree. Now onto what really made my blood boil about this book. The characters. Specifically Kathrine's character. In the beginning of the book she meets what can only be described as her love interest but low and behind he ended up being her TEACHER. Then spoiler, they end of making out. I don't think I ever wanted to throw a book across the room more. It just was so uncomfortable. The main murder itself was what drew me into this book, besides the boarding school atmosphere. I honestly could have been less interested in it. One thing that really aggravated me, (Almost as much as the teacher-student relationship) was the fact that it took the author almost 50 pages to describe the main characters appearances, and even then was only described in passing so for the majority of the book I had to guess what these characters looked like. Overall, I honestly regret reading this book. I am speechless (not in a good way)

This story defintely has potential, but the world building wasn't thorough enogh. The book was easy to read and I liked the characters. It did feel to rushed for my taste and I didn't like the student-teacher relationship.
