Like other books in the series this was fun. Some parts are a little rushed but overall I really enjoyed it.

My only critiques are the 2 missed opportunities for spice. Otherwise I really enjoyed the book.

I was especially fond of Sriracha. I love a spicy kitty and I love when pets are included in books like these. It really makes the characters relatable. Eva was relatable for several reasons least of which was her volunteer work as a groomer and cat lover. She's sassy and doesn't just take crap lying down. She takes an active roll in undoing her ahole brother's mess and cuts him off entirely after all he's put her through.

Mateo is a grumpy cinnamon roll who had a rough start in life but thanks to the opportunity his employer Desmon offered him, he has been able to make a good life for himself. He's charming in a subdued rakish sort of way and he makes an effort to smooth things over after their rough start and tend to Eva while she's under his care.

3.5 rounded up.
I’m a fan of possessive monsters (shocking I know) so I was looking forward to this book. Mateo was deeply insecure, rebellious, and a bit impulsive. Eva was snarky, compassionate, and also a bit impulsive, so I guess they worked together. They had good sexual chemistry, but I feel like they didn’t have as deep of a relationship by the end of the book as I would have preferred. Sure, there were love declarations, and they knew one another’s deepest darkest secrets, but they didn’t know the small things that make a relationship truly meaningful.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: fire, burns, grief, murder, kidnapping, home invasion, attempted SA, death, body disintegration, emotional manipulation by family member

Eva's (h) life takes a wild turn when her brother, Tony, steals a treasure from a dragon's hoard, triggering the arrival of Mateo (H), a manticore assigned to retrieve the stolen locket. Facing a tight deadline, Mateo kidnaps Eva, leading them on a hunt for the missing artifact. As they unravel the mystery, a powerful wizard's involvement comes to light, adding danger to their quest. Amidst the chaos, a steamy and sweet romance grows between Eva and Mateo, blending growly possessiveness with endearing moments. The duo, accompanied by a quirky cast of characters, races against time to thwart the wizard's plans. Loved Sriracha. Hot and Steamy monster-human romance with humor, action, mystery, and magical adventure.

Eva, the female human lead, is beyond irritated to be woken for the second night in a row by who she thinks is her deadbeat brother until she opens the door to find Mateo, the male manticore lead in human glamour, who is searching for her brother and a magical relic that he stole. Mateo is determined to keep Eva with him, sure she must know more given her brother disappeared from her house. But as they chase the relic, a relationship develops.

This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a fun, fast-paced, sweet and steamy, fantasy romance in the author’s existing world. I enjoyed Eva’s exploration of a magical world she’d had only peripheral experience with prior to meeting Mateo. I enjoyed Mateo’s changing attitude. I enjoyed the non-romance plot. I enjoyed the steamy intimate scenes. I enjoyed the cameos from previous characters in the series. This was a great read!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review
