Harley Laroux created such a vivid and enticing world with so few pages. I devoured it so quickly the first time that I didn't truly appreciate the little quirks and details that flesh out each character. It's so freaking good, but check the trigger warnings because it's also very dark and kinky.

So The Dare is a novella about the Halloween party that the Losers Part 1 discusses at the beginning. I highly suggest reading this one first because I tried to jump right into the Losers. I had it on my Kindle already, and to read The Dare, I had to buy the physical copy. I just couldn't get into it. I struggled so hard at the beginning because I felt like I was missing something and people always rave about this gritty duology so for me to give it a fair chance I knew I needed to read the novella first so I ended up getting the physical copy and the Halloween party is WILD! We do fall into some sterotypical tropes because we are focused on the popular it girl and the outcast. Looking back I feel like the best way to read this one is to start Losers part 1 because we get a lot of the back story of the last year of high school and everything that went down with Manson and then the book shifts to after the party and references back to the Halloween party and at the point I'd pause that book and read this novella then go back to the main book. I know it's a lot of flip flopping. Still, I think its the best way to make the most since Jess leaves after the party instead of following through on her promise, and we do a timejump to after they graduate from college. Jess is forced to move back in with her parents, so she runs into Manson and his crew again.

I’m definitely gonna read the books that come after this, but I do just want to note that if this had been written by a cis man—being that it’s a story about the popular cheerleader getting humiliated and tag-teamed by the group of guys she bullied in high school—I’d be like 🚨DANGER🚨DANGER🚨 🚩🚩🚩

(I’ll allow it in this instance though, because it’s Harley Laroux, and I trust them.)

I was debating whether it’s 3.75 or 4…

Anyway. CHECK YOUR TW BEFORE READING!

I guess I can’t stop you if you want to read this but the degradation in this book…..

I finished it. I think I enjoyed it? Is it something I’ll recommend? Probably to a certain group of people. Will I want to read the rest of the series? Another maybe, nit anytime soon but still at 70/30.

I am not a fan of bully romance but again, I get it. It made her feel something that she desperately needed. So go Jess!
