I didn't know I'd like it so much when I first picked it up. Loved every bit of it. 5 stars from me.

Just as good as you've heard if not better. This one will be a future classic.

With most books like this, I find the last few chapters (the end) feels rushed and abbreviated. Last fifth of this book was so well arranged. The emotional sensation of the story and characters are slowly built and stacked, in a way you don't notice it's really happening through the text. And then at the end you get to walk into this completed structure, neatly designed and powerful, but not overwhelming.

This book was phenomenal! The way Bennett seamlessly switched between characters and time periods was immaculate. The writing style made me want to study it in university (if I was still there) it was so good.

Read this book! If you like fiction and family dynamics  and just about anything, read this book!

I listened to this on audiobook via Libro.fm and it was such a good one to listen to, especially with the different POVs. Highly recommend.

I really disliked the way the trans character was written. I also found issues with pacing and the time jumps were confusing and the ending was unsatisfying, but my overall issue is that the author really didn't handle the queer characters with care at all. It had some really good parts and is good for reflection on colorism and the idea of passing.
