It was fine, although the author followed the American fiction convention of having the characters be vile to each other for no reason every time the plot needed to be moved along. Not worthy of the Woman's Prize long list though.

An incredible novel about family and history and the question of whether you can ever really separate yourself from either. I loved the way the storylines of each character evolved and connected.

Beautifully written, great characters. Some of the side characters had the potential to have great compelling story lines but many of them just seemed like the were there just for the sake of the main characters' stories, and I wish those characters were done more justice.
