Very difficult to get into, I started it multiple times before I ever actually started it and finished it, however once you make it over that hump, it’s so worth it!

I enjoyed this book however the long meandering ramblings about architecture really bogged down the story. Sorry Victor Hugo but descriptions of Gothic architecture are simply not for everyone!
Also, I found the timeline very confusing as the story is set in the 15th century yet the narrator would continually reference things from the 19th and it just completely pulled me out of the story and got annoying.
Speaking of annoying Pierre Gringorie is the most useless and boring character in the whole book and when he was pleading to King Louis XI to not execute him I was hoping that the King would so that I wouldn't have to read about him or his love for Djali the Goat anymore.
When the story focused on Esmeralda, Quasimodo and Frollo it was brilliant but when it didn't it was just boring and tedious to read. Honestly the first 100 pages could have been omitted in my opinion as they added nothing to the story and I felt like Hugo could have toned down the appreciation for architecture. We get it, big building pretty, get over it!
Overall, a solid 3/5 stars!

"When you get an idea into your head you find it in everything."

"The Hunchback of Notre-Dame" reminded me of "The Phantom of The Opera"; their style is similar, only the story is different. This book triggers other social issues, probably that is one of the reasons I liked it. The last pages of this book were...hard. I stayed up till 4 am last night finishing it. I am only telling you, it was worth it.
Once again, I was left heartbroken.
The only reason I am not rating 5 stars is that it was pretty tough for me, at least.
