I went into this book with no knowledge of the story other than a few character names. I did not expect the plot to be as it turned out.

While compelling and entrancing, I found it hard to relate to as a teenage girl.
i must admit that it took me quite a long time to finish this book as it was quite hard to read.
the hunchback of notre dame was the only (disney) film i liked when i was a child, but reading the book it seems quite weird to me how they even thought of making this into a kids film.
it was a brutal book, which shocked me in a lot of ways.
it took me a while to get into the structure of the sentences in the book and at one point i gave up looking up the different french words used to describe a lot of things.
i am glad that i managed to finish this book.

An unforgettable reading experience.
I read this book after having watched the Disney "version". So, I was prepared for some sympathetic characters. There were none. It reminded me of Wuthering Heights in this way. All the characters are despicable, even Quasimodo who I imagined as a lovable monster. Not so. Of course, because of his upbringing, it is understandable that he is a terrible person but not at all nice to read about.
