I don't love books of essays, but I figured the topic might make this one good. But the essays aren't even essays - they are rarely more than a couple of short paragraphs, with no over-arching story or theme. And then we get to the story where we find out one of her parents killed her pet by beating it over the head! Not sure there' much redeeming about this book.
