Boxer meets the woman he is supposed to have killed... hijinks ensue Temple fights people who have lost their money with very few exceptions, one is the brother of the woman he's accused of killing years ago, only she isn't dead. She turns up again in his life and he is not sure what to do about her and about their mutual past. She is the one person who doesn't fear him and now they have to learn a way to go forward. I enjoyed it, wanted them to talk a bit more occasionally and sometimes the misunderstandings were more intended for humour than anything else but it was entertaining.

DNF ~60-70%

So I wasn't feeling this when I first started it like two months ago. Now I've moved and been without internet (besides data on my phone) for almost 2 months, and looking at this book I've decided that it isn't worth it to power through.
I personally can't suspend my disbelief enough to accept that a person would in any way interact or feel any real genuine (non-abusive) attraction towards a person that framed you for their murder. Like absolutely not! Also Mara drugged Temple like twice, and I know the second time was kinda sorta in self-defence if you squint, but that's just another point against her.
I'm also not a fan of that very sudden switch to "love", and I'm autistic so usually I can't see the a to b of the romance in these books. But it's also just so weird when it's like a light switch on/off love. They treated each other so awfully, and then boom they see that they love each other? Reluctant attraction I can sort get behind in other cases, but not in this one.

So yeah, it's a no from me.

I think this is a more well done version of what the author had done in Daring and the Duke. Enemies to lovers, betrayal, over a decade in hiding, all that good stuff

I was so annoyed with the first half of this book - just have a conversation like normal people. This is a huge pet peeve of mine in fiction - secrets kept for no reason other than creating plot conflict. No one would actually act like those two. I was prepared to DNF and then at the 50% mark it got much better and I was actually into the story line and the characters.

The owners of The Fallen Angel gaming hell all have tragic pasts, and Temple is certainly in that category. Twelve years ago he woke up in the bed of his father's 16-year-old fiancee with blood all over the bed and Mara, the fiancee gone (and possibly dead). Ever since then he has been known as the 'Killer Duke.'

The story catches up to him when Mara comes out of hiding to contact Temple. She needs to save the small orphanage she runs from financial ruin (although Temple doesn't know that). They are drawn together - even more than they were 12 years ago. But she is the person who ruined him, and he supposedly murdered her....

Cover: Nice. Perhaps not quite as beautiful as the first two.
Narrator: Rosalind Landor!
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: I'm sorting Temple into Slytherin and Mara into Gryffindor.

Themes: London, gaming hell, orphanage, bare-knuckle fighting
