This was such a good introduction to the story. The art is really engaging (though there are some questionable scenes in the story that get depicted- be read for the cheating/chastity conversation with your kids).

I would highly recommend it though.

An excellent and refreshing adaptation of an ancient classic.

Really cool interpretation of The Odyssey! Great artwork and makes the story very accessible and possible for pretty much anyone to read such a classic and influential work. It’s definitely abridged, but gets the general point across and very fun to read.

Okay, confession time. I have a bachelor's degree in English Literature and I have never read The Odyssey in entirety. (In different classes I have been assigned the book and read different part equaling the whole book, but it has always been so overwhelming as a single book that I have never sat down and read it in its entirety.) I've always had problems with books (and movies) in older versions of the English language. I struggle with Shakespeare. I struggle with Chaucer. And I struggled with The Odyssey. However, Gareth Hinds makes The Odyssey accessible to the point that I didn't want to put down the book AND I understood it all. And to add to it all, the illustrations in this graphic novel are engaging and gorgeous.

I am "teaching" this right now to my freshmen students. It's been a minute since I've read the original. I think this graphic novel makes the material more accessible for students. I did actually have a student comment that the stories within the books were engaging and interesting.

I like that Hinds manages to take the source material and condense it down to this graphic novel. The violence and sex is scaled down quite a bit. The images are colorful and detailed. I think I just wanted more details of the story and the characters.

The artwork is great and the representation of the gods is fab. The image to text ratio was completely off but it was a decent read.

Considering how I've never read The Odyssey before, I really enjoyed it. This version used a simplified translation which made it much easier to understand than if I read the epic on my own.
